Job Description:
The Emergency Department Unit Coordinator provides a variety of
support functions that contribute to the overall efficient
operations of multiple patient care units. The Emergency Department
Unit Coordinator is the first person patients encounter when
entering the hospital. Receives incoming patients for
hospitalization. Interviews patients or relatives to obtain
identifying information and other data required for admission
records.Assigns patient to appropriate room or ward as designated
by supervisor. Prepares dismissal and other records. Additional
responsibilities include scheduling, and verification of insurance
pre-certification. The Emergency Department Unit Coordinator also
receives admitted patients, initiates patient files, takes action
on doctors' orders, processes discharges, transfers, and prepares
hospital statistical reports. Answers and/or directs inquiries for
staff and visitors. Multi-tasking is at the heart of this position,
and the UC must be able to understand which tasks are critical to
immediate patient care and prioritize tasks correctly. Demonstrates
ability to multi-task, and handle multiple departments, all while
answering the phone and greeting customers and visitors. At times
very graphic traumatic and emotional scenes unfold in the ER and
this position requires a calm and strong demeanor. Greet patients
and alert a nurse to immediate needs. Responsible for the
Coordination of Emergency Surgeries. Facilitator for ED, Critical
Care, Med/Surge, and Obstetrics departments.Education: High School
education or equivalentExperience: Previous hospital experience
preferred, Knowledge of medical terminology required, Experience
with computers, fax/copy machines, telephone etiquette, paging
systems, cellular phones an data base systems
preferred,Licenses/Certification: CPR certifiedCompensation: $19.10
- $21.96/hr, depending on experience.Benefits EligibilityMedical,
