the Vista Outdoor family of brands.The Industrial Designer
translates brand language, mechanical function, and current market
trends into concepts that define the future generations of product.
This position is responsible for the development of
industry-leading concepts from research, concept development and
presentation, through models for manufacturing, and on to
production.The Industrial Designer will develop, refine, and
present manufacturable, and consumer-valued product concepts that
ultimately support future products that provide a benefit to the
consumer, while striving to achieve or exceed standards beyond
state of the art for return value to the company. - -PRIMARY
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Owns all design activities for specified projects, from
ideation and first prototype through commercialization and
production
- Uses brand guidelines and mechanical requirements to develop
new concepts for both hardgoods and soft goods
- Incorporates feedback from market trends, customer experience,
sales, and marketing to return designs that demonstrate quality
product experiences
- Works collaboratively with mechanical and electrical engineers
as well as product managers and service professionals to design
products that satisfy requirements laid out in the Product
Brief
- Creates 2D AND 3D drawings (both analog and digital), produces
photo-realistic renderings for concept presentation, translates
these to mechanical drawings with assistance from engineering.
- Tests functional prototypes to verify design intent through
virtual or physical methods
- Meticulously updates, creates, and organizes design
documentation and, to assure consistency and quality in product
designs
- Keeps informed of the latest developments in the field by
reading trade journals, individual contacts, and attendance at
appropriate meetings and trade shows.
- Takes on minor, major level projects.
- May be involved in communication with suppliers overseas using
chat and video conferencing technologies. This may require work
beyond the typical 9am-5pm hours.QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design or similar (BFA),
Manufacturing & Design Engineering (BS MaDE) or equivalent work
experience
- At least 3 years in the mountain bike industry or similar life
experience with outdoor sporting goods industry in support of
technology, components, design and concepts
- Experience designing with Sketching/Creative (Adobe Suite or
Similar) and Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software (SolidWorks)
- Computer experience/knowledge of Microsoft applications
(Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Teams, Sharepoint)
- Understanding of the mechanical requirements of a mountain bike
and related accessories as well as manufacturing and assembly
principles for common processes in this industry (DFMA)
- Experience working with, and managing, international suppliers
for tooling and part manufacturing
- Experienced and competent with basic model shop tools and
mechanical assembly
- Experience designing, building, or generally creating "things",
whether for work, school, or simply funThe salary range for this
position is $65,000 to $93,000 depending on experience.We offer a
