Functions as a unit clerk as well as a certified nurse's aide.
The unit clerk duties include performing a variety of clerical
duties relating to the updating and organizing of information on
the nursing units. Coordinates work within the unit as well as with
other units and departments. Reporting pertinent information to the
immediate supervisor as well as responding to inquiries and
requests from staff, personnel, etc. Meets the communication needs
of the patient/family, department, and medical staff. Implements
directions form physicians and nursing staff. The certified nurse
aid duties include assisting the RN or LPN in providing patient
care to patients on the Family Center as well as floating to other
areas of the hospital in order to provide patient care.
Perform various clerical duties relating to the updating and
organizing of information on the units as illustrated by the
o Maintaining chart order, chart accuracy and chart current
o Keep all necessary lists and schedules.
o Answer the telephone in a professional manner. Directs calls
to appropriate individuals and/or take messages.
o Stock unit with office and medical supplies. Prepare
requisitions to maintain established inventories.
o Fax and photocopy information as needed.
o Assist with admission process of patients including calling
patient down to admissions, putting the orders into the computer,
putting patient information into the computerized system.
o Able to perform all aspects of order entry, able to navigate
in the computer system and troubleshoot computer problems.
o Complete desk duties including answering the phone, answering
call lights, keeping the delivery log, outpatient log, and transfer

o Place patient in room, assist with gown, get urine sample, put
