Western's Executive Assistant to the President is the rare career opportunity for a highly skilled business professional seeking challenging intellectual and organizational work in direct support of the University's chief executive. The Executive Assistant is a liaison with groups and individuals, both internal and external to the University, who enhances and facilitates interaction with the President. The position provides support not only with office management but also by contributing to issue analysis and problem solving with critical thinking, research, writing, diplomatic communication and production of original materials.

Duties: Provides timely research, authoritative current and background information and prepares briefs on topics of importance. Writes communications, drafts correspondence and prepares presentations for the President. Screens and refers matters that may be effectively handled by another department. Independently resolves problems not requiring the President's direct attention. Assesses issues to be brought before the President and, prior to scheduled meetings with those concerned, ensures the President has all pertinent information. Coordinates entire official functions from concept to delivery (such as the University's commencement, receptions and meetings). Makes decisions directly affecting the operation of the President's Office; provides administrative support, updates web pages, schedules appointments and makes travel arrangements. For the Board of Trustees, makes meeting and travel arrangements and provide administrative support - taking careful minutes at each board meeting and serving public notice for each meeting. Carefully manages sensitive and/or legal/confidential matters with discretion, following appropriate protocols. Takes initiative and works cooperatively with staff throughout the University.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office products; Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to effectively manage communications with constituents
  • Excellent business writing skills
  • Self-starter with solid problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Basic accounting and database skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Additional Application Information: Salary Range: $40,000 - $48,000 per year; commensurate with qualifications and experience
