POSITION TITLE: Lead PhlebotomistDEPARTMENT: LaboratoryREPORTS
TO: Laboratory DirectorThe Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act
requires employers in the state of Colorado to disclose the
following information. Hourly (salary) minimum $19.25, hourly
(salary) maximum $23.59. The base hourly (salary) range above
represents the low and high end of the range for this position.
Actual hourly (salary) rates may be above or below the range based
on various factors including but not limited to: experience,
education, and training. Pay is just one component to prospective
employees' compensation package. Compensation may also include

improve the health and wellbeing of our communities.BASIC FUNCTION:
The Lead Phlebotomist works collaboratively with Laboratory
Leadership to ensure successful operation of Grand River Hospital
District Laboratories. Specific Lead duties include but are not
limited to day to day leadership of Phlebotomists, provision of
guidance and assistance with complex cases, liaising with external
laboratories and entities, assistance with interviewing and
selection for open positions, creation and maintenance of
Phlebotomy scheduling and ordering supplies. Performs a variety of
tasks involved in the collection of specimens from patients for
laboratory procedures to be used in the diagnosis and treatment of
disease. Draws and collects blood samples, verifies patient records
and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis. May prick finger to
draw blood. Conducts drug screens and breathe alcohol tests. Uses a
variety of techniques to perform the duties of the position.
Clerical duties include but are not limited to processing
department mail, answering multiline phone system and responding to
email and fax inquiries. On call duties may be required. Carrier
services may be required as needed. Performs a variety of tasks and
other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Certification
as a Phlebotomist preferred. Must have current BLS card within 3
months of initial employment and maintain current status throughout
GRHD employment. Experience: Requires 3 to 5 years of relevant
professional experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge
of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the
field. Knowledge of organization policies, regulations and
procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety
hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
Skilled in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Skill
in maintaining department quality assurance. Ability to work
independently and effectively. Ability to react calmly and
effectively in an emergency situation. Skilled in establishing and
maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical
staff, co-workers and the public. Ability to communicate in English
both verbally and in writing. Skill in phlebotomy, arterial blood
collection and general specimen collection highly preferred. Must
be proficient within six (6) months of hire in network, MS office,
Kronos, HealthStream, Mayo, Meditech, Carescripts, Allscripts and
Galactica. GENERAL COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS: Has knowledge of and
adheres to all compliance regulations, policies and procedures.
Completes annual compliance, privacy, and security training.
Responsible for complying with all federal, state and local rules
and regulations. Complies with the all Grand River Hospital
District policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct and the
Compliance and Ethics Program requirements. Reports any observation
of fraud, waste, abuse, and/or privacy violations. Reports any
conflict of interest or relationship immediately.HEALTH INFORMATION

strict confidentiality when handling patient information, according
to the HIPAA Privacy Act and hospital policy and procedure
regarding confidentiality. Complies with all hospital information
security practices.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands

CONDITIONS: The employee is subject to daily exposure to the risk
of blood borne pathogens, bacteria, toxic substances, body fluids,
communicable diseases, equipment noise and occasionally the
combative patient. Other conditions may exist which are common to
the clinical laboratory environment.
