The remaining 10% will be serving as PAT (pre-anesthesia testing) RN for surgical patients. Proficiency will be required within both roles.Primary Scope of Responsibilities of Same Day Surgery RN:* The nurse provides nursing care to the pre-operative, phase two and the out-patient Peri-operative services patient.* The nurse prepares the patient for surgery including completion of the pre-operative check list, medications as ordered, preps and test so there will be no delays in care. Plans an efficient OR schedule for patients with interdepartmental and intra-departmental services and staff.* In addition to the normal patient teaching the SDS nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive pre-op, discharge teaching and health counseling. The SDS nurse is responsible for follow up phone calls with additional teaching as necessary.* All nursing documentation and assessment of the patient is to be carried out in accordance to unit specific and hospital policy in ORM electronic documentation module. It is the responsibility of the SDS nurse to understand the functionality and use of new equipment.* Ensures developmentally appropriate care for pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.* Assistance with any needed functions within the department. This includes, but is not limited to: Housekeeping Functions, Assisting in Sterile Processing/Instrument Cleaning, Materials Management and Room Stocking, and Floating to other Departments within Surgical Services or the Hospital if needed. These roles will be assigned by the Charge Nurse or Director as needed.Primary Scope of Responsibilities of Patient Navigator/PAT RN:* Works collaboratively with the anesthesiologist and the patient/family having surgery to ensure the patient and family are well informed and prepared for surgery and all documentation is available preoperatively in the patients' chart. This responsibility may include pre-procedure and follow-up telephonic or electronic check-in, the mailing/shipment of information or materials, and connecting client to the appropriate clinical team for instructions, clarifications, or follow-up.* Works with clinical and administrative teams to schedule patients for services post operatively. This may include working with hospital staff, orthopedic physicians, community physical therapists, and others to determine the best date and time to begin the services, arrange transportation and travel, transmit information collected, and seamlessly hand-off any established client relationship to the appropriate professional.* Keeps an accurate and complete record of all communications and work generated.* Maintains cooperative working relationship with hospital personnel and physicians in order to resolve problems and to enhance smooth and efficient delivery of services.* Communicates with physicians, nursing staff, families, and other disciplines to formulate a plan of care based on patient needs. Participate in the Transitions of Care team to coordinate the discharge process as a multidisciplinary plan of care. Provide frontline leadership support and orthopedic guidance for the inpatient nursing departments.* Supports the RN Case Management role with utilization review and discharge planning processes for orthopedic patients.Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:* Current Colorado RN (or compact) license required upon hire.* Previous nursing experience required in at least one of the following areas is required: Same Day Surgery, PACU, PAT, or Operating Room* American Heart Association certifications:* BLS required* ACLS within 6 months of hire* PALS within 6 months of hire
