Assistant GM

Beyul Retreat, a backcountry adventure lodge meets wellness retreat, is now hiring for an Assistant General Manager position.

This is not your average hotel job, but so much more. Come live in a community, deep in the wilderness, 1 hour from Aspen, Colorado with access to hiking, biking, and backcountry skiing right out your cabin door.

You'll be responsible for supporting the management of the day-to-day operation of Beyul, including but not limited to the front desk, housekeeping, and property staff while supporting the General Manager in providing overall leadership in Beyul's continuing effort to deliver outstanding guest experience, experiential events and financial profitability.

We are looking for a numbers wizard who is nimble and systems-minded, with a passion for human optimization, nature, and creative hospitality.

Operations

Take ownership of our online booking system and OTAs, including the central strategic piece of setting our rates and availability, in collaboration with other managers.

Work closely with the GM to oversee the front desk and housekeeping departments, over time taking over daily management of these guest services.

Lead and manage the employees on these teams to:

deliver consistent high-quality guest experience

accomplish ongoing strategic improvement projects

support the personal growth & professional development of each team member

Take responsibility for the nuts and bolts daily logistics of these two departments:

Scheduling, including management of labor costs

Supplies inventory and ordering

Ordering and inventory for the Beyul Mercantile and Bodega, our craft goods & organic healthy food retail shops

Manage & support front desk staff with booking and guest communication issues

Keep a constant eye on what's not working well and take initiative to change it: make us more efficient, make our guests & teammates happier, save money where you can, and overall help Beyul keep getting better every day.

Document and share your work: improvement plans; strategic initiatives; weekly/monthly reports; new SOPs, checklists, & forms, etc.

Serve as "Manager on Duty" to oversee the property, in rotation with other managers. Jump in wherever is needed: Pickup a front desk shift, go flip a cabin when the housekeeping team is behind, build a bonfire for guests, etc. (This is a core part of the Beyul team culture for every team member.)

Finance

Take ownership of the core day-to-day financial operations:

Tracking and paying all bills (accounts payable)

Bi-weekly: Ensure all staff have entered hours/PTO correctly and run payroll

Monthly: Oversee month-end close including expense receipts & categorization of expenses; run the night audit; work with management to ensure the month's revenue has been tracked correctly.

Work with GM to track invoicing and accounts receivable

Revenue Reporting: Each week, update a revenue report that shows past performance, business on the books. and revenue projections - all compared to our annual budget. Work with the other managers to use these revenue reports to manage costs and drive more revenue.

Budget Reporting: Each month, update a budget report that shows past performance & projected spend per department compared to our budget & projected revenue. Work with the other managers to use these budget reports to manage labor costs & expenses.

Participate in seasonal management strategy discussions to improve the performance of each department, identify problem areas, and make recommendations to improve profitability.

Event Support

When needed, work with booked private event clients to define the details of their events: run-of-show, setup needs, catering/meals, bar service, A/V needs, etc. Communicate these details to the rest of the Beyul team.

As manager of the front desk department, oversee the online booking for private event guests.

Collaborate with other managers to staff events appropriately.

Collaborate with GM on private event invoicing and billing.
