TITLE: Director of Nursing DEPARTMENT: Care Center REPORTS TO:
Administrative Director,--Care Center-- JOB PURPOSE: To improve the
health and wellbeing of our communities. BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for the overall development, implementation, management
and evaluation of the nursing program at E. Dene Moore Care Center
(EDMCC) for Grand River Hospital District (GRHD). -- Advises
management, patient care staff and administration in matters
related to nursing services and resident care. Develops and
evaluates nursing policies, procedures, structure and standards of
performance, and objectives for nursing personnel and interprets to
staff, management, residents, family members and administration.
Communicates with Administrative Director, staff and residents
regarding nursing services and care on an ongoing basis. Provides
day to day supervision of EDMCC nursing staff. Responsible for
development of and adherence to departmental budgets. Recruits,
supervises, and evaluates EDMCC nursing staff to ensure efficient
operation and the highest quality of care for EDMCC residents.
Promotes a positive work environment and handles staff and resident
concerns and questions promptly and professionally. Communicates
with residents and resident family members regarding their care.
Assists with d evelopment and execution of training and orientation
for assigned staff for all required systems, applicable policies
and procedures and duties. Facilitates additional training with
staff when required. -- Uses discretion when handling sensitive
issues within EDMCC and applies sound decision-making in resolving
issues. Works in collaboration with Human Resources and
Administrative Director to appropriately handle disciplinary action
as necessary. Responsible for timekeeping record processing for
assigned staff and oversight of nursing scheduling. Works in
collaboration with EDMCC nursing staff, Activities Department,
Dietary Department and support staff and collaborates and
communicates interdepartmentally with other GRHD departments and
personnel to ensure excellent coordination of care. -- Attends
various meetings and serves on committees as assigned. Conducts
meetings with staff to ensure compliance with organization's
policies and standard practices and communicates changes with
staff. Facilitates regular service huddles. Represents EDMCC to
community which may include community presentations and attendance
at community events. Provides support to Administrative Director
and assists with tasks and completion of special projects as
assigned. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish
goals. Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education : Graduation from an accredited school of
Nursing. Valid registration as a Registered Nurse in the State of
Colorado required. Must have current BLS card within 3 months of
initial employment and maintain current status throughout GRHD
employment. Experience : At least 3 years of professional
leadership experience in a similar role preferred. Five years of
nursing experience preferred. Significant professional experience
in a long-term care setting preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND
ABILITIES: Knowledge of principles and practices associated with
the rights and responsibilities of patients and caregivers.
Knowledge of and ability to use industry standards, policies and
procedures relevant to the function of the position and the
organization. Knowledge of and ability to assess ailments and
injuries of patients and residents and ability to implement a
treatment plan. Knowledge of the operating principles, major
issues, governmental regulations and code of ethics for the
healthcare industry; ability to apply this understanding
appropriately to related situations. Knowledge of the relevance of
health information and appropriate documentation methods; ability
to record medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications,
diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests and medical results
in written and electronic format. Strong leadership and supervisory
skills required. Skilled in computer based applications including
but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite. Strong interpersonal and
communication skills required; both verbally and in writing.
Problem solving and analytical skills required. Skilled in
developing and maintaining department quality improvement. Ability
to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
residents, patients, employees, the public and other agencies.
Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergent situations.
Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or
complaints. Must be proficient within six (6) months of hire
in--Meditech, Kronos, American Health Tech, QHN, and Allscripts
Touchworks. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described

focus. WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job,
the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the
time. This position performs tasks that involve Category I exposure
to bloodborne pathogens, body fluids and communicable diseases.
Frequent exposure to chemical hazards and toxic substances. Works
with and around residents experiencing various states of physical
and psychological conditions. Works with medical preparations and
other conditions common to a nursing home environment.
